  121. This package contains StopWatch Version 1.40 by TAN$TAAFL(TM) Software
  122. Company. This document contains only a brief description of the package
  123. and its features, along with instructions for its installation. Quite
  124. detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in archived
  125. form, and is more easily read after installation.

  127. If you've ever wished you could use your computer as a precision
  128. chronograph (timer) then StopWatch is the program for you. Once you
  129. calibrate your computer for three levels of precision you can use the
  130. Up, Down, Race, Lap, Game, and Split Timers to time anything from your
  131. eggs in the morning, the Indy 500, or a scientific experiment to an
  132. accuracy of millionths of a second.

  134. StopWatch is a shareware program. This evaluation version is a full
  135. featured program and is not crippled in any way. You may use it for up
  136. to 30 days, without charge (see STWATCH.DOC for more details). If you
  137. like the program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation
  138. period, you are required to pay for the program (see ORDER.DOC for more
  139. details). Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers,
  140. etc.) to obtain this program was a fee for their copying and
  141. distribution services, rather than a payment for continued use of the
  142. program.

  144. As a registration incentive you will receive the lastest versions of
  145. StopWatch 16 and 32, which is optimized for 32 bit registers. The 32 bit
  146. register optimized version of StopWatch is for 80386 and up computers.
  147. The registered versions include realtime speed calculations for all up
  148. and lap timers, a printer options menu, virus self-checking at startup,
  149. and a holiday editor. Plus receive two small utilities. One is
  150. NEWCLS.COM, a replacement for the DOS CLS command which allows you to
  151. set any valid combination of screen colors whenever you clear the
  152. screen. The second is GUARDIAN.SYS which guards your computer against
  153. any attack through DOS's backdoor. The registration reminder screen has
  154. been removed from the registered versions and you will be notified by
  155. TAN$TAAFL(TM) Software Company of any major upgrades.

  177. ===== Installation =====================================
  178.  
  179. The installation procedure for StopWatch is very simple. You will need
  180. at least 336K of free disk space to store all of the programs and
  181. documentation files.
  182.  
  183. Use the INSTALL.EXE file to install the StopWatch files on any disk
  184. drive. At the DOS prompt type INSTALL followed by a carriage return if
  185. you are logged onto the drive and directory that INSTALL.EXE is in. Or
  186. if you are on the C: drive and INSTALL.EXE is on the A: drive type
  187. A:\INSTALL followed by a carriage return. You do not have to be logged
  188. onto the drive and directory that INSTALL.EXE is in. INSTALL.EXE will
  189. take over and guide you through the installation process.
  190.  
  191. INSTALL.EXE checks itself and all of the programs in the StopWatch
  192. Package, except VENDINFO.DIZ, for signs of alteration, tampering, or
  193. infection by a computer virus.
  194.  
  195. INSTALL.EXE allows you to select the files you wish to install. It does
  196. not require you to install all the files and then delete the ones you do
  197. not want.
  198.  
  199. INSTALL.EXE has very sophisticated error detection routines that will
  200. tell you if anything goes wrong during the installation process. While
  201. each file is being transferred the data is verified by reading it back
  202. and comparing it against the original data.
  203.  
  204. During the actual transfer process if any error is detected you will be
  205. informed and installation will be stopped. This will mean that you have
  206. a problem with the source or destination disk that has to be taken care
  207. of before you can continue the installation process.
  208.  
  209. EXECUTING StopWatch
  210.  
  211. StopWatch does not run on the 8086, 8088, 80186 or 80188 CPUs.
  212.  
  213. StopWatch may be executed from either a floppy or hard disk drive. To
  214. minimize loading time it is recommended that StopWatch be run from a
  215. hard disk drive. You will also be able to create larger data files on a
  216. hard disk drive. StopWatch CANNOT be executed from a CD-ROM disk because
  217. it has to be able to create files in the directory in which the EXE file
  218. is located. CD-ROM is a read-only media and you cannot create files on
  219. it.
  220.  
  221. If you desire to execute StopWatch from any directory, the directory
  222. name that StopWatch resides in must be placed in the "PATH=" environment
  223. variable. Check your DOS manual for more details. If the Directory is
  224. not in the "PATH=" environment variable you will first have to log on to
  225. the required directory with the following DOS Command: "CD STWATCH"
  226. assuming that "STWATCH" is the directory name you have the EXE file in.
  227.  
  228. There are two command line parameters, /B and /P, that may be entered
  229. when executing StopWatch. (See page 8 in STWATCH.DOC for complete
  230. details.)

  232. From the DOS Prompt type in SW16 followed by any command line parameters
  233. and press the Enter Key. StopWatch will load and be ready to run.
  234.  
  235. MULTITASKING ENVIRONMENT
  236.  
  237. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RUN StopWatch IN A MULTITASKING ENVIRONMENT. It will
  238. adversely effect the timing routines and erroneous results will be
  239. displayed. StopWatch will refuse to load and run if it is executed from
  240. Windows, OS/2, or the DOS Task Switcher.

  245. management routines that slow down the CPU.

  273. SW16.PRN. This file is accessable to any text editor that can handle
